This piece, and the accompanying "Following a Thread" are a part of my "pool paintings" or waterscapes pieces. Named thus due to the pooling of pigmented water that is used to create these layered, sometimes subtle and sometimes frenetic pieces. In these two pieces drips and drops feature greatly. They are a natural part of the painting process that I usually manipulate to blend into the solid forms but this time I allowed the saturated brush to linger over the canvas while I thought about the next move, and was distracted as the water slid off my brush as I moved it away to leave a trail of dots. "Oops" I thought at first. Then I decided that the dark dots over the translucent colors reminded me of silvery fish underwater or those magical seashells you catch sight of every so often flickering under the waves.
